To the Leadership of the ChRI Parliament
SIA CHECHENPRESS November 5, 2007
Ever since Movladi Udugov emerged as a member of ChRI government, we repeatedly warned the Parliamentary leadership and some government ministers that attempts of a constitutional coup were possible. What happened today is merely what had had to happen sooner or later.
We are convinced that the present escalation will eventually benefit out long-suffering Chechen nation and its state: the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria.
In this sense, we would like to express human gratitude to the outgoing supreme leader of the ChRI for his voluntary resignation of his duties and powers. We believe this has opened the way for the ChRI Parliament, working strictly within the framework of ChRI Constitution, to return to the original political and ideological course of the Chechen state. That course is based on the principles of national independence and freedom, worked out by the legendary first Presidents of the ChRI.
We, members of the ChRI Parliament and Chairmen of respective parliamentary committees state responsibly that, regardless of any possible provocations by the enemies of Chechen statehood, we shall keep performing our parliamentary duties.
In our judgment, an emergency meeting of the ChRI Parliament must be immediately held to discuss the following issues:
1. Early suspension of the powers of President Umarov in connection with the known events.
2. Appointment of an Acting President for the period until new presidential elections can be held. 3. Appointment of the Prime Minister and formation of the new Cabinet of Ministers.
4. The Parliament’s statement to the world community about the changes in the ChRI supreme leadership.
Abubakar Magamadov, Member of ChRI Parliament, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for Defence and Security
Dokka Amagov, Member of ChRI Parliament, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for Mass Media.
