The Statement by Mikhail Trepashkin
SIA CHECHENPRESS October 8, 2007
To the Public Committee
Dear lawyers and human rights activists,
I would like to introduce some clarity regarding the publication of the ‘Strange Coincidences’ article. The information contained there was addressed, first of all, to Lubov Borisovna Kosik herself.
I have commented more than once upon not only the information leaks, but also disappearances of some notes, especially those concerning the criminal fabrication of the sentence by the prosecutors, FSB and military judges. The essence and the purpose of my last note was to help Lubov Kosik herself to look around and try and identify the source of the leak.
The published version of my note tendentiously diverted my original text. I have no reasons to accuse Lubov Kosik of betraying the interests of the Defence. However, she worked, and still works, surrounded by terrible, nasty, unscrupulous people. The purpose of my note was to draw her attention to that situation once again. However, I do recognize the positive role of the Lawyer Kosik, which V. I. Popova rightly points out in her open letter.
I do not write about any secrets, so the information leak as such is not very alarming. The more so because I an in prison anyway, and there is 8 weeks till the end of my term. However, the loss of documents, notes and information is something that I take very painfully. For I obtain that information at cost of enormous efforts. Remember how harsh Nikolai Gumilyov would react to careless handling of his works. Far from comparing myself to Gumilyov, I still consider my notes as those of legal procedural significance, if only the lawyers reacted to them adequately. They could be used in Nizhny Tagil Area Court, Sverdlovsky Regional Court, European Human Rights Court, etc. Therefore, I am very much concerned about possible careless handling of those notes.
Sincerely yours, p/p
Mikhail Trepashkin
