Foreign Ministry of Chechen Republic of Ichkeria: Press Release
21 June 2006
Following the assassination of President Abdul Halim Sadulaev, mourning Tezets and political protest demonstrations took place in many countries where Chechen refugees reside.
Mourning ("kyoman tezet") was organised in Chechen Republic of Ichkeria's Mission to Poland from June 18 to 20. Mourning activities also took place in all the 17 centres of Chechen refugees' compact settlement in Poland.
In Lithuania, delegates of the Conservative Party Congress condemned the assassination as another crime of the Kremlin, and paid tribute to the memory of President Sadulaev with a minute of silence. Ahyad Idigov, Chairman of Foreign Relations Committee of the CHRI Parliament, and Aminat Saiyeva, CHRI President's Representative in Baltic states, were invited to the Congress as guests.
In Istanbul, Turkey, a rally of protest against Russian authorities' criminal activities took place. At this rally, Chechen refugees and Turkish Chechens were also joined by members of Turkey's Cherkessan and Dagestanian Diasporas and many locals.
In Norway and Denmark, both Chechen refugees and local sympathisers participated in the Tezet mourning. In Oslo, the event was organised by the CHRI Mission to Norway, and by Ivor Amundsen, the Honorary Consul of CHRI President. Ahmed Zakayev, CHRI Foreign Minister, spoke on telephone to the participants of the Tezet in Denmark and Norway. He praised the political and military qualities of the late President and thanked organisers and participants of the mourning on behalf of the Chechen government.
In Vienna, a demonstration of protest against the terrorist assassination of President Sadulaev was attended by Chechen refugees and Austrian citizens.
In Berlin, a rally of Chechen refugees and members of German public also condemned the assassination. Ekkehard Maas, CHRI President's Honorary Consul to Germnay, spoke some words of mourning and condolences to the Chechen nation.
Said-Hasan Abumuslimov, CHRI Commissioner for investigation of Russian State Chauvinism's crimes against the nations of Caucasus, spoke to the rally in Berlin about the outrageous facts of mockery over the dead bodies of Chechen presidents. Even during the two World Wars, Mr. Abumuslimov said, the dead bodies were never treated in such a barbaric way as the Russian occupational authorities do.
