A roadside bomb killed five police officers in Chechnya's capital and another officer was shot dead near the city, officials said Monday.
The blast, set off by remote control, occurred late Sunday in the city of Grozny, regional emergency authorities said. Two other police officers were seriously wounded in the attack.
The officers were part of a squad of 10 who were working to tighten security in the city before this week's inauguration of Russian President-elect Dmitry Medvedev and the celebration of Victory Day.
